Getting Organized with Kids

Life can get so busy and one top priority for many families is to spend more quality time together. It is when clutter starts getting in the way and out of control when our clients reach out for help and we come ready to create organizing systems that save time, money and are life-changing. Many of our clients are young families with small children and one question that always comes up is: will I be able to maintain the systems you put in place?  The short answer is always YES, you will.

Now, believe me, that it will get messy from time to time but the organizing system will help you put your space back into place.  Creating new habits is the key to maintaining organizing systems with kids and growing families.

Let’s break it down into what you should do to keep and maintain organized systems with kids and families.

Mindset:

Mindset is the very first thing you should change when you desire an organized home and you have kids.  If you want it, you can do it.  It will take time and a positive mindset to create the orderly environment you envision having in your home.  Mindset also is helpful in the sense that kids will eventually grow up and the clutter that they bring will be gone.

We recommend incorporating furniture pieces that match your style and aesthetic.  Because some children's toys are bright and loud, we recommend incorporating pieces that hide the toys is key to keeping your house looking organized and calm.  When your children are around an organized and clutter-free environment, they notice that and they start to appreciate the skills that you as a parent are teaching them.  Also, studies show that children are more creative when there’s less clutter (TOYS) around them.

Habits:

Cultivating good habits creates the lifestyle you deserve.  When it comes to staying organized, cultivating good habits that help you succeed is so important.  Whatever space is that we help our clients get organized, we cannot stress enough at the end of our working session that in order for the space to be maintainable, your habits will need to change as well.  It’s an investment to have an organizer come to your house and help you create the habits that you are going to adopt.  Putting things back where they belong with their proper label, taking items out of their original packaging, buying less, donating what is no longer needed, shop for the space you have, and truly give value to the things you have. These are all habits worth remembering every time we are feeling as if we are drowning in clutter.  Always remember that your kids are learning from you and if you are showcasing organizing habits, these are skills they will use when they grow up and become happy and organized adults.

Maintenance:

Maintaining an organized space is a breeze when your priorities are in place.  If your priority is to have a clutter-free environment, you will schedule time as a family to organize your spaces.  There are many ideas that help families and individuals alike reset for a successful week. Some do it during the weekend, others during a weekday, whatever works best for you and your family.  Resetting your home will set you up for success and less time for organizing and cleaning.  It’s much better to create a resetting habit than to spend days, weeks, months, or years trying to get your home organized.  We also understand that time is essential and that many of our clients have busy schedules, in that case, we offer maintenance packages based on our clients’ needs.  Maintenance Packages for existing clients are recommended for busy families that love and thrive in an organized space.
